WOODLAND beyond PHOTOGRAPHY

WHAT:
Woodland beyond Photography is three day event in deep forest of Kočevski rog in Slovenia. The main theme is photography and environmentalism, so you can expect photography expeditions, talks, projections, exhibitions, challenges and even performances. And of course bonfire with acoustic music.
It is happening every year on the last weekend of July. It is open and free event. It is not a workshop, but it is not a leisure time either. We are a group of artists that are planning to create certain projects together. We invite people who want to come in this environment to either create their projects or helping others in creating them.

THEME:
This year’s theme is Artists in Resistance. As a protest against cultural policy of Slovenian government we consciously decided not to ask for any governmental funding, but we will rely on our own survival capabilities and continue to create art.

WHAT DO WE OFFER:
We will provide camping ground, water, toilets and improvised shower. We will provide organised lunches and dinners, but not breakfasts.

WE DO NOT PROVIDE:
We do not provide comfort, because comfort is overrated! We do not provide entertainment, but we expect you to join the group dynamic and be the part of entertaining event. We do not provide camping equipment. There are few beds available, but we expect about 100 people, so convince us that you need a bed and you will get it for free. That said we are humble artists with latent wish to be grand dictators, so I am afraid that this deep seeded complex might erupt in a form of hidden pleasure to negate your wish. As ancient Greeks were saying: “Comfort is the opium of the people!“. A room with king size bed is the prize for an art concept that will win a competition.

WHAT DO WE ASK:
We ask only three things.
Respect for the nature and its laws.
That you are coming as a participant of the event and are willing to contribute to it.
To pay 60 EUR for six meals, provided by professional chef.

More information will follow soon.

Carbon Print Workshop 23-24 march

Tribute to Ansel Adams workshop

22th of January – 24th of January 2016

Three day workshop, a tribute to Ansel Adams!

Ansel Adams was one of the greatest masters of photography. Our workshop will celebrate his vision and passion for photography and environment. We  will go to the edge of a virgin forrest where no man has ever cut a tree or shot an animal. We will lodge in a cottage, eat, drink, sleep and live photography for a weekend. In the evening we will have  presentations and cook a dinner under bone fire.

The workshop is open for maximum six people (plus assistants). At our disposal we will have many cameras, from large format Linhof 5×7″ and ShenHao 4×5″, two medium format cameras Mamiya C330, format 6×6 and Fuji GSW 690 III, format 6×9 and two 35mm . Each participant will receive one 35mm film, two rolls of 120 film and six sheets of films for large format cameras. In the cottage we will develop films and make some photographs from roll films and contact copies from large format film sheets. Then we will tone the prints with selenium and sulphide toners.

At this workshop you can expect an adventure in fabulous landscape with uncomfortable Land Rover from 1972, learning how to use analogue large format and middle format cameras, learning how to use a light meter and spot meter, learning Ansel Adams’s Zone system, how to develop a film and a photograph. This is a perfect workshop to get familiar with the basics of analogue film photography.

The workshop will be supported by Nikon Slovenia, so we will have also the latest Nikon cameras and lenses at our disposal, so it’s legal to bring your digital cameras. I will show you how I make my huge panoramic photographs, from photographing to post-processing.

Price is 250 EUR and that includes films, cameras, lodging and food. Lodging is literally lodging in a lodge so it’s not the most comfortable option, but comfort is overrated anyhow. Nevertheless we have few additional options available. Additional discount for participants younger then 26 years and for local photographers. For more information please send email to borutpeterlin@gmail.com

The workshop is organised together with museum Dolenjski muzej.
